Outreach:
I was a social-media coordinator for a young-adult novelist for four years, so I do have experience in this area. My skill set is in writing copy for social media posts and other forms of outreach (publicity campaigns, outreach e-mails, etc.). I’m quite adept at this kind of public facing language – in both formal and informal spaces – but areas where I really struggle are researching potential audiences, finding the right outlet, and all of those more strategic elements of outreach. In short, I’m good at the execution phase, but pretty woeful at the planning.
Project Management:
As a social-media coordinator and assistant I do have a lot of experience with project and team management, in both long and short term areas. Calendar management, following up with team-mates, and keeping track of the big picture are all things I feel comfortable with. I also feel comfortable working as a floater/interdisciplinarily and jumping in where needed. I’m a fast learner and I’m good at learning what’s needed for a task.
Developer:
I know some very basic css/html, and while I would love to learn more in this area I’m not sure it would be fair to whatever team I end up on to take this task.
Design/UX:
Again, I think my main strength here is on the writing side. I’m excellent at writing copy, and at translating ideas into both academic and more generally user friendly modalities.
I have a strong aesthetic sense, especially from a communication perspective, and some professional photoshop/illustrator experience, although that was not the main focus of my last job. I think this would be an area where I would be a good collaborator, especially if there was someone on the team with more technical expertise than I had.
Project Pitches
I am very much looking forward to seeing what projects we vote to build this semester! As promised, here are some useful links:
By tomorrow (2/1), please post your pitch if you have one, including:
Keep in mind that some group members may double up on roles or you can slightly expand the scope of the project if it was originally designed for two or three people. Minimally, these are the roles we’re aiming to fill in each project:
We’ll hold back on determining group sizes until we’ve seen all the project pitches, but it’s a good idea to define the specific roles you envision the project requiring to achieve your planned benchmarks.
If you’re not pitching a project, take the time to respond to all the pitches with constructive feedback. Additionally, everyone should make a separate post listing your skillsets. Please use the category “skillsets” when doing so.
